Arts of Citizenship is Hiring!
Dear Friends & Colleagues:
I write today with the sad news that Kamilah Henderson will be leaving her position as Associate Director of Arts of Citizenship at the end of July. Fortunately for all of us, she will not be going far. In September, Kamilah will begin studying for an M.S.W. in the Community-Based Initiative Program at the U-M School of Social Work. As sad as we are to lose Kamilah, we are excited for her that she has the opportunity to continue to pursue her interests in community development and social change.
Kamilah came to Arts of Citizenship in November, 2007. It was truly a leap of faith. In her cramped quarters on the third floor of the Ginsberg Center, she quickly made herself invaluable to our efforts to reestablish Arts of Citizenship as national model for collaborative scholarship. Kamilah’s vision, leadership, organizational skills and commitment to building sustainable community-campus partnerships have been evident in every aspect of Arts of Citizenship’s work over the past 3 1/2 years. Arts of Citizenship will sorely miss Kamilah.
With Rackham’s assistance, we are just beginning the process of searching for Kamilah’s replacement. The job description has been posted on the U-M job site. It is posting number 57923. Please pass the word to anyone who might be interested. And if they have questions about the position and Arts of Citizenship please have them email me.
Thank you so much,
Matthew

August 10, 2011Dear Matthew,
How absolutely fantastic that A of C is “up and running” again! I was the admin 3/financial manager of the program for several years. I was so saddened and disappointed that such a future-forward, community friendly program was closed. My faith in the U of M has (somewhat) been restored.
Congratulations on becoming the faculty director.
Sincerely,
Laura

September 9, 2011Hello Laura:
Thank you for your note. We are immensely grateful to the Ginsberg Center (and its former director Margi Dewar) and Rackham (and Dean Janet Weiss and former Associate Dean Peggy McCracken) for their support for Arts of Citizenship’s revival.\\
